Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is the leading transport corporation in Andhra Pradesh State, India. It is the largest bus transport system in the world.[1]
History
- It was established in 1932 as a unit of the Nizam State Railways-Road Transport Division. It started with 27 buses and has grown tremendously and currently runs about 19,000 strong bus fleet.
Features
- APSRTC transports around 12 million people every day. These services are rendered by a team of 1.17 lakh employees.
- It is the world's largest public transport organization[2][3] with a fleet of 19,000+ buses and growing, offering a wide fleet services in southern parts of India. APSRTC is the largest road transportation company in the world.This has been certified by the Guinness World Records which awarded it the record holder for being the operator of the highest number of buses. About 20,000 buses are daily run on roads of Andhra Pradesh helping 500,000 people reach their destinations every day. In the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, 4,000 city buses circulate the city every day from 6:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Bus Services
The Bus Services of the APSRTC have been classified into two depending on their distance of travel
- City Services:In Hyderabad, there are different city buses. They are the ordinary, metro express (semi-luxury), metro liner (luxury) and veera (luxury). Some of these classes of bus service are in operation in the other major cities of Andhra Pradesh like Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada as well.
- Long Distance Service:APSRTC has various classes of services connecting almost every major town in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The cheapest and the most extensive service is the express bus service with low levels of comfort. It also has the luxury or semi-sleeper service of buses connecting district headquarters as well as the state capital.Recently it has introduced Air conditioned Volvo buses, named them as "Garuda". Some of these buses are sleeper type as well.

- APSRTC was honored with the ‘Road Safety award’ by United Kingdom based ‘Chartered Institute of Transport’
- ‘Productivity and Fuel Efficiency Award’ from Government of India has been given to APSRTC for many consecutive years.
