Coordinates: Adambakkam (Tamil: ஆதம்பாக்கம்) is a suburb of Chennai, a city situated on the east coast of the southern India. It is a thickly populated suburb flanking the railway line, close to the St. Thomas Mount Railway Station, Chennai. Adambakkam is surrounded by suburbs such as Alandur, Puzhidivakkam, Madipakkam, Nanganallur and Velachery. The residents mostly belong to the middle and upper middle classes. Unlike many other suburbs in Chennai, this place has more individual houses rather than apartments and so it makes an ideal residential place. In the past few years there had been acute water problems which was historically very rare to this locality. Mainly because this area had been a lake area and so it was never short of ground water and yearly rainfall was catering to the water needs to the residents. This is one of the localities in Chennai which has come up without much planning contribution from Municipality for a long time. Lately this place has been blessed with underground drainage and relayed roads.
GeographyAdambakkam (also referred as AdamCity)is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 7 metres (26 feet). The residents are some of the richest communities of Chennai, the house hold income is one of the highest in the city with most houses owning a car. CultureAdambakkam has a population with diverse cultures where eminent Christians, Hindus, and Muslims co-exist. Prominent church is St. Mark's Church in Brindavan Nagar. Another church is Chirst The King, C.S.I Church. Prominent Hindu temples are the famous Palandi Amman temple near Railway Station, Devi Nagamuthu Mariamman temple in EB Colony, Lord Subramanya temple in Brindavan Nagar, Bhuvaneshwari Amman temple in Andal Nagar and Nandeeswarar temple near St. Thomas Mount railway station. Besides, Chennai's only Viswaroopa Sarvamangala Shaneeswara Bhagawan sannidhi is located inside Devi Nagamuthu Mariamma temple. Prominent Mosque is the one in 'Masudhi theru' behind Adambakkam police station. In the year 2007 the Sarva Sithi Vinayagar Temple celebrated the Kumbabishekam of Lord Murgan temple added to that Lord Bramha, Goddesses Durga, Lord Vishnu, Lord Dhakshina Murthy and also the 9 Navagrahas. There is very high two-wheeler traffic in Adambakkam. The residents are served by the bus numbers 9M,52K,18D,B51,51F,M14,51S of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation. Bus routes connecting Madipakkam, Medavakkam areas to the City which ply through this area also caters to commuting. The St. Thomas Railway Station, part of the Chennai suburban railway serves the city's railway commuters. During the next phase of the elevated Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) railway project, the existing line, which currently terminates at Velachery will be extended to St. Thomas Mount station. This will aid faster transportation of passengers from Adambakkam and adjacent localities to eastern parts of Chennai.
