David J. Halberstam (born 7 October 1951) is the EVP/General Manager of Westwood One Sports. Previously, he was the play-by-play announcer for the Miami Heat and St. John's basketball. Halberstam was fined $2500 for a remark he made in 1997 during a Miami Heat broadcast concerning Thomas Jefferson and slaves.[1][2] Halberstam's contract was subsequently not renewed.[3] In 1999, Halberstam wrote Sports on New York Radio: A Play-by-Play History published by Masters Press.[4] He currently resides in Florida.
