Divya Desams are Srivaishnava shrines that were sung about by Azhvars (divine saints). There are 108 divya desams in total. Two of these are not in this material world - Parama padam (at God's holy feet) and ThiruppaRkadal (the Ocean of Milk where Vishnu resides). Of the remaining 106, 105 are located in India and 1 is in Nepal (SaLagramam). For a detailed list of number of paasurams of all Alvars on each Divyadesam, see Mangalasasanam by Divyadesam. Vaishnava Hindus, especially in South India, hope to visit all the 106 earthly divya desams in their lifetime, and aspire to reach the 2 spiritual divya desams in the hereafter.
