Coordinates: 31°38′N 75°50′E / 31.64, 75.84 Hariana is a city and a municipal council in Hoshiarpur district in the Indian state of Punjab. Hariana is named after Guru Hari Sen; the guru of the famous singer Tansen. It was a famous music gharana once. Gujjar Mal Vasudev raagi & Pandit Telu Ram were famous singers & residents of hariana.When the mugals entered into India; they made a Quila in a place called Malot nearby Hariana & Hariana was their tehsil at that time. The city has provided a lot of freedom fighters like Pandit Jagat Ram and Sardar Partap Singh Wasal. It is also the city of famous writer S.Jagjit Singh Komal.

Hariana has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 73%. In Hariana, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. This town is about 100 km from Amritsar International Airport.
