Sir John Harold Clapham CBE, LittD, FBA (September 13, 1873- March 29, 1946) was a British economic historian.

He was educated at The Leys School, Cambridge and was the first Professor of Economic History at Cambridge University from 1928 to 1938, and Vice-Provost of King's College, Cambridge from 1933 until 1943 in which year he received a knighthood.. He is also remembered for his work, The Bank of England, A History (1944) ISBN 0-521-04662-9

Famous quote by him: "Economic advance is not the same thing as human progress".

John Habakkuk was one of his students.[1]
