Kukatpally is a major residential and commercial suburb in Hyderabad, India. It is located on the northwest fringe of Hyderabad city. It has the highest density of population in the entire state, thanks to its proximity to the IT hub of Hyderabad. It was a small, sleepy village until the state government's AP Housing Board[1] built the biggest residential township in Asia in the 1980s. Since July 2007, it has been under Greater Municipality of Hyderabad. It has a population of 358,455 (2004 census). Most of its population is from the Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh, but traditionally rooted to the Telangana culture. There are high- and medium-density housing like flats, and independent homes.
Commercial Area
Kukutpally is a hub for major shopping in the entire IT corridor, with major shopping malls and more up coming. It has a vegetable market called as Rythu bazaar (Farmers Market). Residents here have access to all types of services and commodities within its limits. Metro Cash & Carry, a supermarket giant, has its store at Moosapet, close to Kukatpally. But is restricted for businesses only. There are few good ready made showrooms like very big Chermas& Reebok (opp hydernagar),R.S.Brothers, Chandana Brothers, Kalamandir, Kalaniketan, among others. Major Banks like SBI, State Bank of Hyderabad, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Andhra Bank, Corporation Bank etc, are located here. TransportBusKukatpally is well connected by the state-owned bus service, APSRTC. It is well connected with the rest of the city as it falls on the road between Hyderabad and Patancheru which is the last stop for North-west bound city buses. MMTS TrainsTrain station is close to KPHB colony run by Indian Railways called as MMTS, and connects to Hyderabad & Secunderabad and is often the best way for getting to the other side of the city. Kukatpally B.J.P office has a big entrance arch located on the Pune highway.Many of junior colleges are located in this area only.This is complete residential area. There are not even one single theatre in this area. About Kukatpally Housing Board Colony (KPHB Colony): It welcomes you with a statue of Mahatma Gandhi and an uncompleted arch. It was built in early 1980s, dubbed as the largest residential colony in Asia. Now connected by a new road to the HI-TEC city (Hyderabad Information Technology Engineering Consultancy). Malaysian township has also been recently built. This area makes it a best choice for newcomers (specially those on budget) to Hyderabad.We can also call kukatpally as bachelor hub.As many of the unemployed select kukatpally as first choice. Kukatpally is connected by a new 4km-road with Hi-Tech City, passing through Malaysian Township and Hi-Tech city MMTS Railway Station Schools & CollegesKukatpally is a major educational hub with several Engineering, degree colleges, junior colleges & schools. It is home to JNTU (Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University) which has its campus in this area.
