Line 8 of the Beijing Subway (simplified Chinese: 北京地铁8号线; pinyin: běijīng dìtiě bāhàoxiàn), also known as the Olympic Branch Line (奥运支线), is the shortest of Beijing's subway lines currently in operation. It connects Beijing's Olympic village, called the Olympic Green, with Line 10, north of the city centre, in Chaoyang District. The line spans just 4.53 km, and has four stations. The entire line runs underground. Line 8's color is green.
Line 8 sits on the central north-south axis of the city of Beijing, which is aligned through the Drum Tower, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and Yongdingmen. In the coming years, the line will be expanded along the central axis in both directions.

Line 8 in Phase I was built specifically for the 2008 Olympic Games. Construction began in 2004 and the line entered into operation with Line 10 on July 19, 2008. Access was originally restricted to riders with an Olympic Register Card or a ticket to an event at the Olympic Games or Paralympic Games on the day of the event. Since early October 2008, the line has been fully opened to the public.
The Olympic Branch Line represents only the first phase of Line 8. In Phase II, Line 8 is being extended north through the Olympic Forest Park to Huoying North in Changping District beyond the Line 13 arc. To the south, Line 8 will enter the city centre via Gulou Dajie, the Drum Tower, and Houhai, and terminate at the National Art Museum.[1] In all, the extensions will add 17 km and 11 stations.[2] Construction on Phase II began in December 2007.[3][2] Phase II will cost ¥10.1 billion and be completed in 2012.[4][2]
