Los Angeles was the 1980 debut album by the American punk rock band X. Produced by ex-Doors keyboard player Ray Manzarek, it included a cover of the 1967 Doors song, "Soul Kitchen."
Critical responseIn 1989, it was ranked #24 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the The 100 Greatest Albums of the 80's. In 2003, the album was ranked number 286 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Fans of X's hardcore punk phase and L.A.-area gigging days typically select this as the band's finest album. Other critics tend toward their later albums Wild Gift, Under the Big Black Sun, and More Fun In The New World. It was re-released by Rhino Records in 2001 with five bonus tracks.
