Mollington is a small village approximately 5 miles (8 km) north of Banbury. It has an estimated size of 2 square miles (5 km²). Villages nearby include Cropredy, slightly larger than Mollington, and Farnborough. There has been a settlement at Mollington since at least the fifteenth century.[1]

The 2001 census recorded 469 people living in 193 households in the parish of Mollington.[2] The population was 49.6% male and 50.3% female with the majority in the age-range 25 - 64.[3] The village used to have a Church of England primary school, a shop and post office. It still has a parish church, All Saints, as well as one pub, The Green Man.[4][5] Today there is a thriving community with an active parish council and an enthusiastic village hall committee. The village hall is well used by local groups, fundraising events and private bookings e.g. birthdays and anniversaries.

In the late sixties the Professional Golfers Association were looking for a permanent home and had negotiated to buy a local farm where they intended to build a championship course and hotel complex. Sadly the planning application was turned down by Cherwell District Council who had their own plans for a municipal course at Chacombe and were worried that the PGA course would detract from that. The PGA of course settled for their second choice, The Belfry, otherwise the Ryder Cup could have been held on what would have been the site of the first battle of the English Civil War.

A Point to point racing racing ground opened at Mollington in 1972 and was home to a number of Hunt groups until its closure in 2007.[6]
