The Utica-Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of two counties in central New York, anchored by the cities of Utica and Rome. As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 299,896 (though a July 1, 2007 estimate placed the population at 294,862).[1]

HamletsDemographicsAs of the census[2] of 2000, there were 299,896 people, 116,230 households, and 76,297 families residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 91.85% White, 4.62% African American, 0.23% Native American, 1.00% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.91% from other races, and 1.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.71% of the population. The median income for a household in the MSA was $34,417, and the median income for a family was $42,956.
