Requests for page protection
Shortcuts:
WP:RFPP

WP:RPP

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. Add a level 4 header at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header.
(for example, for an article use: ===={{la|ARTICLE}}====)
  2. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  3. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  4. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

Battle of Bunker Hill (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection -- This is a frequent IP-vandalism target. Since it came off its previous semi-protection on November 18, its edit history is dominated by vandalism-related activity. Magic♪piano 03:58, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Survivor: Gabon (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, We have been experiencing a high load of vandalism and unconfirmed spoilers from anonymous IPs. It would be great to get semi-protection for about a month, at which point in time the finale will have aired and interest in vandalism will have (hopefully) subsided. Indefinite semi-protection vandalism.-- IRP 00:03, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of two weeks. After two weeks the page will be automatically unprotected. As a highly visible article, this is a good candidate for indefinite semi-protection, but vandalism appears to have been managed well so far—the article was never protected before this October! Let's see how it goes. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 00:30, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Rock of Love: Charm School (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, This page was semi-protected until it expired earlier today. Within several hours of the semi-protection being lifted, we started experiencing a relatively high amount of vandalism and unsourced spoilers by anonymous IPs. It would be great if we could get semi-protection for about one more month, at which point the finale will have aired and there should be declined interest in vandalism on the page. Thank you for your consideration..Plastikspork (talk) 23:58, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

To add to the request, according to the main article on the series, the finale will air on 21 December, so I'd recommend semi protection expiring shortly after then- something like the 24th or 25th. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 00:05, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, fancruft We are trying to clean up the article to meet WP:MOS-AM and have to deal daily with anonymous vandalism and fancruft additions.じんない 23:48, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Comment (Note, that I am not an admin.) I dare say, I am the most active editor on that page. And I am surprised to find it listed here. There is no vandalism to speak of. Addition of fancruft is no ground to protect. And we are not trying to make it comply with WP:MOS-AM (as it mostly is), but to make it meet WP:WIAFL. -- Goodraise (talk) 00:44, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try to ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection.

The IP, and various SPA socks, are inserting attack material without sources, then reverting removal with false edit summaries. When told to provide sources, they produced a home-made website called "KAS SUCKS" and believe this is reliable. They are insistent that their material is true but it's not our job to decide that, it's our job to require reliable sources, and those they won't produce. ➨ ЯEDVERS a sweet and tender hooligan 07:21, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Two week semi-protection I missed these two articles in my last request. Part of a long-running edit war that began on November 4, when User:Howard the Duck removed charts that violate WP:BADCHARTS from I Belong to Me. Since then, multiple anonymous IPs (190.43.33.197, 190.43.147.102, 190.232.156.19, 200.106.16.107, etc) have been edit-warring the charts back in. When I removed some bad charts from A Public Affair on November 30, the war simply expanded. Punkox (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log) has joined in, as well: he looks like the named account associated with the anonymous edits to me.

long term semi-protect. Sock-puppets whitewashing the page removing validly cited information that is critical or negative. Admins have run CheckUser, found a lot of sock-puppets and banned them (as you can see in the talk). Yet for some reason the page is not semi-protected, so new sock-puppets keep being created, and they come and revert the page from a consensus version to a whitewashed version. Please semi-protect it (if not indef full protect) for a couple of months at least, in the hope that those using sock-puppets will see sense. Also note, this page has been under indef full-protect in the past for months at end. The whitewshers ignore any appeals made on talk page to discuss, and when the page is unprotected, return to their games. Makrandjoshi (talk) 15:34, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Indefinite full protect. We had this before, and then an admin decided to remove it. Semi protection will not help, because all the vandal edits are registered users. Some have been long-term sockpuppets. This article will not improve until those who want to make drastic edits come to the talk page and explain themselves. Please look at the protection history. Full protection is the only way to achieve stability. Let the community request unprotection when appropriate discussion has taken place. ~Amatulić (talk) 15:48, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
